Salsa Saturday

It started in Queen's Gardens at around 12.30 with Bonbon Cha. Gentle pace Charanga Son. Very pleasant for a sunny afternoon with friends. Difficult dancing conditions with uneven paving did not deter a few of us from having a dance. It was a warm up for what was to come in Harrogate!

The Spanish Harlem Orchestra were brilliant as always (although they did lose me a bit with the Latin Jazz section). I was clapping and singing along in my seat but a few of the Leeds guys did go down to the front to dance, which was much appreciated by the band. My chance to hit the dancefloor came later at the La Tasca after-party. Great music and great atmosphere. A good day for Salsa!

FREE Tango Class

Helio and Cecilia are going to give us a FREE introduction to Tango class before the Lazaat Social next Thursday (3rd August). We'll start at 8.30 (I say 'we' as I will be interpreting!) and the normal Social will follow afterwards. If it goes well, I'll slip in a Tango track for you to dance to during the night.

Spanish Harlem Orchestra!!!!!

For those of you still umm-ing and arr-ing over this concert....DON'T! This is the biggest Salsa gig of the summer and it's only in Harrogate. You should still be able to get tickets so don't delay and call the box office on 01423 537230.

If you quote the following reference 'LB10' - you will get a 10% discount per ticket purchased at any price.

Then if that wasn't reason enough for being in Harrogate tomorrow night there will be an afterparty at La Tasca Spanish Bar, John St, Harrogate, and as the International centre is a seated venue, this is your chance to dance!! DJ Lubi will be spinning salsa and a touch of merengue/bachata/reggaeton until 12.30am. Free admission. Food available.

20th July Lazaat Social

Thanks to everyone who turned out on a hot night to our twice monthly social. Thanks to Lazaat for the gorgeous smoothies (my personal favourite is the mango – yum!) and thanks to Jon for a great dance to 'Mas Que Nada'!
We were treated to a beautiful Tango by Helio and Cecilia to an amazing track that people have been asking me about. It's on an album by the Gotan Project and is called 'Santa Maria (del buen ayre)'. Always pleased when people ask about the music and we will no doubt have some more Tango at the next social. Anyone interested in learning Tango?

So anyway, keep up the classes salseros to prepare for the next night on 3rd August, where you can put those moves into practice! Besos, Rosie x

TANGO FIRE in Sheffield on 2nd September

Direct from Buenos Aires, Argentina's hottest tango show makes its UK debut and has had amazing reviews. Featuring sensational dancers accompanied by a quartet of brilliant young musicians in Quatrotango and one of Argentina’s finest singers. 'Tango Fire' is described as seductive, sophisticated and passionate – sounds good to me! Check out www.tango-fire.com. If you're interested, we'll try to get a group together. x

Spanish Harlem Orchestra

Saturday 29th July 8pm at The Harrogate International Centre

This 13-piece big band is worth catching as they are currently hailed as being the world's BEST SALSA BAND! Saw them a couple of years ago in London and they were amazing. It was hard to keep still in our seats. It's seated at Harrogate too, but I guess you can always dance in the aisles! DJ Lubi has negotiated some discounts, so if you let me know if you want to go, I will see what discount we can get as a group. Email me, text me or just let me know on Thursday. Rosie x

Jazz Festival 2006

Saturday 29th July in Queens Gardens, Hull from 12.30 til 4.00pm.

This is a FREE gig in Hull by Bonbon Cha. They're an 8-piece band made up of UK based Cuban Salsa musicians. Apparently the event will take place whatever the weather, but if the sun's shining, this could be fun!

Salsa Social New Venue

Big GRACIAS to everyone for making the launch of the Salsa Social at Lazaat such a huge success! The venue was amazing, and what a treat to be able to have the doors open so we could sit outside by the fountain.

Hope you can all make the next one on the 20th July. Un abrazo, Rosie x
