19th Oct Lazaat Social and Future Events

Big GRACIAS to special guest DJ Tony 'El Caballero' from York. I hear he did a good job of keeping you busy on the dancefloor!

In November we will have 3 socials! As there are five Thursdays in November and we didn't want to make you wait 3 weeks, we're putting on an EXTRA night on the 30th November. Now this is the time to get your mates who have wanted to try Salsa to come and give it a go. I will be teaching a beginner's class at 8.30 before the Club night starts. For £5 you can have a class and entry into the club as well as a 'dutch courage' Sangria to get you onto the dancefloor! What can I say? Bargain night out!

Then the following week on the 7th Dec we have our Christmas Party! Hooray!! This last social before Christmas will be a Tango Special. We are getting Bill Newby in from Sheffield to give us a Tango workshop at 8.00pm. The price for this will be £8 and will include a welcome drink and entry into the club. The places for this will be limited and so you will have to buy your tickets in advance to secure your place. These can be purchased from the reception at Lazaat or from me. Book early to avoid disappointment! Normal social after the workshop but with some Tango for you to practise to.

Look forward to seeing you all next week. Besos, Rosie x

5th October at Lazaat

Thanks to those who continue to support the night. I know that a lot of you are too busy on the dance floor to buy drinks, but please help to keep this venue by buying a drink from the bar. There are good non-alcoholic options available such as smoothies, for those of you who need to drive. From now on there will be a charge of £1.50 for bottled water. Keep Salsa alive in Hull! Un abrazo, Rosie x

Just a reminder that there will be a FREE Rueda taster at 9pm for half an hour before the dancing starts this week. Look forward to seeing you there! Rosie x

Can Salsa Cure Bad Moods?

University lecturers are to investigate whether Salsa dancing can help beat depression. Researchers at Derby will be testing to see if the Cuban step can boost mental health. The Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), a system used to record depression levels, will be used by participants before and after Salsa classes over a two-month period. The findings will then be compared to see if the dance has a positive effect on people's moods.

Mental health lecturer Matt Birks, a keen Salsa dancer, said: "It's been documented that exercise can help mental health sufferers in their fight against depression. "With the physical benefits of Salsa, together with the social interaction and the need for full concentration during a session, I believe Salsa dancing could have health benefits for depressed patients."

Dance teacher Lee Hunter said: "You do notice positive changes in people who regularly come to (Salsa) lessons. People can initially be shy but within a few months they are more extroverted, perhaps even changing dress or hair styles as they become more confident." The university is appealing for volunteers who have a history of depression.
