Busy Salsa Weekend

Next week, Salsa kicks off on Thursday night (7th) with the Lazaat Social. We will have a FREE Rueda class from 9.00 til 9.30pm. There will be a number limit and so get there early if you want to join in. It will be a great warm up and chance to meet other dancers. For those of you who don't know, Rueda (meaning wheel) comes from Havana, Cuba. Couples form a circle and the moves are called out by one person. These moves usually involve the rapid swapping of partners, which can be amusing, confusing but always great fun!

Friday night it's over to Manchester for Salsology. They've invited Joel Daou to teach a 1.5 hour introductory Tango workshop at 9.15pm which I will definitely be doing. There will also be a Ladies Styling/Spinning On1 and On2 class with Emma and Kate, and an intermediate turn pattern On1 class with Mushi – so much choice! Then there's dancing 'til 2am in two rooms. (You may find me in the small room practising my Tango. Bill, can I book a dance please?)

Sunday (10th), it's over to Pearson Park for the Hull Mela. A Mela is traditionally an Indian Summer Fair and in this instance it has been organised in order to celebrate Hull's cultural diversity. I will be doing a Salsa Workshop at 1pm for anyone that wants to come along and hopefully promote Salsa in Hull. The event will be family focused with opportunities for people of all ages to experience music, food, dancing, and art from different cultures.

17th August Lazaat Social

Thanks to everyone who came and made it another great night. Friendly atmosphere and the hardcore dancers going on 'til 1am dancing, shining and rueda-ing! I'm thinking about having short half hour lessons before the Socials that fall on the first Thursday. What do you think? These can be on Tango, Bachata or Rueda and will be free of charge. A warm up before the serious dancing begins! Let me have your views and suggestions amigos and I'll see what I can do.

Three weeks 'til the next Lazaat Social (Dios Mío!), so in the meantime, keep going to those great classes and learning new stuff. (Good to see Anna and Nic back from hols and on the dancefloor at Lazaat showing us how it's done!) I hope to be at St. Stephen's next Thursday and look forward to seeing you there.

3rd August Lazaat Social

Hey there Salseros y Tangueros!
Thanks for coming along last night and having a go at Tango. Big GRACIAS to Helio and Cecilia for showing us how, and getting you all Tango-ing around the room! What a great night with salseros travelling in from York, Leeds and Halifax and two birthdays to celebrate. By the way, that cheesey track I played was called 'Feliz Cumpleaños' by Irakere – I liked it!

Tango Tango

Will be booking tickets very soon for 'Tango Fire' on the 2nd September in Sheffield. Tickets will be around £16, so let me know if you want to go by Thursday night latest. I'm hoping that the Tango lesson will inspire you!
