Safety on the dancefloor!

I'm sure all of us have suffered from bruising or had heel imprints left on our feet. I'm also sure that most of us followers have been lead into a collision course with other dancers. But here we have a word of advice from Darryl for the leaders:

The Brit Salsafest is upon us once more!

Brit Salsafest returns to the magnificent Winter Gardens in Blackpool on 2-4 February 2007! Brought to you by Salsa UK and Salsology, Brit Salsafest offers an international line-up of salsa instructors, DJs and performers, 60 hours + of salsa workshops, late night parties and showcases, all set in spectacular surroundings. With over 2000 people attending last year’s event, Brit Salsafest 2007 promises to be unmissable!
A few of us will be going to York on Friday to see Lossie and Gareth and pay our ticket deposits. If you want to join us you are more than welcome. Be good to get a few of you dancing on2!

21st September Lazaat

I've had more enquiries about Rueda so I'll be doing another FREE taster next time (5th October). The class will be the same as last time running from 9.00pm 'til 9.30pm. Hope to see you there!

There's a new night starting tonight in Leeds at Viva Cuba Central, off Woodhouse Lane (opp Leeds Met Uni). It's on from 11pm 'til 2am and it's FREE!!

Asere Back in Hull

These Cuban musicians gave us a fantastic show last Autumn at Hull Truck. (with one of two of us....ahem joining them on stage at one point!) They're back again and this time will be playing with the legendary Billy Cobham, regarded by many as the world's greatest living drummer! This is set to be a treat and should not be missed. Floor space is limited but if you want to get up and dance the band love it! The date for your diary is Sunday 29th October. Ring the Hull Truck box office on 01482 323638 and get booking. 7th September Lazaat Social

Thanks and well done to those of you who tried the Rueda last night. Here's a reminder of the moves we covered: Pa'l medio, Pa'arriba, Pa'abajo, Dile que no, Guapea, Dame, Enchuf'la and finally Enchuf'la Doble. Not bad in half an hour!

Tango Passion and Fire!

Wow! What an absolute treat of a night at the beautiful Lyceum Theatre in Sheffield. The ladies dancing in their high-split cocktail dresses and the men in their sharp suits were totally mesmerising. The moves they pulled off were just amazing with their legs intertwining with razor-sharp timing and dramatic sudden drops. I really recommend this show if you ever get the opportunity to see it. Those of us that went have been inspired, and I for one am looking forward to the Tango workshop at Salsology even more now.

Sheffield Tango teacher, Bill Newby was there and invited us to an after-party at his house. He played Tango for most of the night and it was so great to see people dancing. Thanks to those leaders who attempted to lead me through some basic moves. I really enjoyed myself! Here's a picture of Bill and I re-creating a dramatic moment from the show!

Bill was very pleased to hear about the interest in Tango we have in Hull and at how well the taster session went with Helio and Cecilia. I'm hoping that we can get him to come over to Lazaat in the near future to teach a Tango workshop. I would anticipate a high demand so we will probably have to take advance bookings and limit the numbers. Anyway, keep watching the blog for more news on this soon! Remember there's a Rueda taster session at Lazaat on Thursday, so see you there!
